I Love the Smell of Third World Air Conditioners

As my Wife goes back to work, and our daughter goes back to her school, the inevitable question will be asked, "What did you over summer vacation?" That got me thinking about my summer vacation, and face it, no one asks me. So here are some of the things I loved about my summer vacation:

  1. Dawn patrols with my brother, and our pursuit of the infamous "magic board".

  2. LAX at midnight with my family waiting for our red eye to Central America.

  3. Discovering your boards actually were on the same plane as you.

  4. Imperial Beers for a buck.

  5. Ceiling fans outside half heatedly circulating the most humid air you can imagine.

  6. The smell of third world air conditioners working their ass off.

  7. Testing out your best spanglish, and thanking god everyone speaks English, Dork.

  8. Paying a guy a buck to watch your car and belongings while you surf.

  9. All your shit still being there when you return.

  10. Monkeys in the trees.

  11. Cafe con Leche after your morning sesh.

  12. Watching the poorest of families proudly send their children to school in the finest, pressed uniforms.

  13. Watching your daughter and wife nonchalantly step over an iguana the size of a small dinosaur.

  14. Hearing them scream at the top of their lungs, at the sight of the tiniest cockroach.

  15. Sweating while it rains.

  16. Witnessing your sister in law suck it up, and ride the canopy zip lines.

  17. Watching your 10 year old daughter talk her through it.

  18. Utilizing the hotel's wifi to verify you are getting the best waves in the Western Hemisphere. Sweet!

  19. And of course, your Mom's visit from the Hawaiian Islands....(she reads this), "Hi Mom."

Let's build here

My favorite place to recover

The only guy out, and he doesn't even surf

Bigger than you think
